How draws stay fair

A draw is only worth something if everyone can trust the result. This page explains how winners are picked, why results can't be changed afterwards, and what any tool can — and can't — guarantee.

Cryptographically secure randomness

Every tool — the name picker, wheel, dice, coin flip, number generator and team generator — uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same kind of source used to create passwords and security keys. The outcome can't be predicted in advance.

When random values are mapped to a range, rejection sampling prevents “modulo bias”, which would otherwise make some outcomes very slightly more likely. Lists are shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm, so every entry has exactly the same chance of winning.

The result is decided before the animation

The result is decided the moment you press the button. The countdown, the spinning wheel and the name shuffle only reveal that result in a fun way — the animation doesn't influence it, and skipping it doesn't change anything.

A result link that can't be edited

Every draw is saved together with its result and gets its own link. There is no way to edit a result on the site: neither the organizer nor anyone else can change the winner. Anyone who opens the link sees the date and time, the number of entries, the winners and the alternates.

For wheel, dice, coin flip and name draws, people who open the link can replay the same animation. In cases of abuse a result can be removed entirely by the site administrators, but it is never edited.

Private Secret Santa matching

Secret Santa matches are created on our server using cryptographically secure randomness. Nobody draws themselves, exclusions are respected, and each participant only sees their own match through their personal link. The organizer can see who has opened their link, but not who is buying for whom.

Privacy

You don't need an account to use the tools. The social media comment pickers never connect to any account — you paste the comments and the usernames are extracted in your browser. Showing the entry list on a name picker result is optional; if you hide it, people who open the link only see the winners and the number of entries.

Passwords are never stored

The password generator runs entirely in your browser. Generated passwords are never sent to our servers, never stored, and no share link is created.

What no tool can guarantee

To be honest, no giveaway tool can guarantee the organizer's intentions on its own. We can't verify:

  • Whether every real entry was actually added to the list. If the list is shown, entrants can check that their name is on it.
  • Whether a draw was run several times and only one result was shared. That's why announcing the draw time in advance — and showing that the time on the result matches — matters.
  • Whether the prize actually reaches the winner.
